Before founding the software business, Ted Merry was a manufacturing consulting engineer specializing in process improvement and machine design. He began his career at IBM as a mechanization engineer from 1965 to 1971. After working as an independent consultant, he thereafter developed the fabrication software for sheet metal in 1979. By 1981, SMP (Sheet Metal Program) was in full-scale use for producing sheet metal flats. Since that time, SMP has been continuously upgraded and enhanced to provide additional functionality to over 2,500 customers ranging from small custom fabricators to the largest electronic and computer companies in the world.
After years of making the family business, Merry Mechanization, Inc. successful, Ted and Valerie Merry (semi-retired) visited the area of Warm Springs, Georgia in 2002. The historical town known for Roosevelt’s Little White House offered a southern charm surrounded by the beautiful mountains of the nearby state park. It was then that they both decided to spend more time in the area and they acquired a small gift store. Their hope was to have their youngest daughter operate and manage the store.
Ted recognized the need for a software product within the retail store immediately.

Specializing in process improvement, Ted saw the countless hours being spent preparing purchase orders and evaluating inventory. After purchasing and reviewing several retail software packages, to which none of them completely satisfied their needs, Ted decided to develop a retail software solution. The small retail gift store would be used as the flagship store to develop an intuitive-affordable software solution. The software product named GiftLogic has been a developing product ever since.
What’s in a name?
GiftLogic was chosen as the software name for the logic developed into the purchasing functions of the software. The main goal of the software is to assist stores with their buying decisions by evaluating sales trends while also providing an overall solution. Although the software was originally written for small gift stores it has developed to handle nearly any small retail operation.
The meaning behind the GiftLogic Logo?
The GiftLogic logo was created to represent organization and structure within the software and retail operation. A simplistic approach to what can seem so challenging. The Complete Package. Gift meaning Talent and Logic meaning Reasoning = Talented Reasoning.
